Classroom Without Walls

One of my favorite experiences at every international school I have taught at is the Classroom Without Walls (CWW) trips we take with our students.

At AISBucharest, the students did not go on whole class trips, but rather chose adventures that inspired them!  These included options from treks in the mountains, learning from local chefs, and volunteering at a Buffalo farm, to artist retreats.  I helped lead an Artist retreat in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania.  Students participated in writing workshops with a local author, took day hikes to write and draw based on the landscapes, and participated in photography workshops.

At Graded, we took a yearly trip with our 6th graders to São Luiz do Paratinga to learn about the town's unique Carnival traditions and how they united as a community to rebuild after a huge flood. We visited local farms, went white water rafting, learned local myths, learned mud construction, and camped in tents.  Older students took different trips all over Brazil.

At the Munich International School and Graded we took a week long journey to a new place, spent time outdoors, learned from the locals about the history and ecology, bonded with each other and had fun!

At Esbjerg International School we took overnight and day trips to local spots in Denmark by train, ferry, and bike!
